A westie is an adorable dog that has a white face with black eyes and nose. This small size type of dog also has a go-to personality. Here are some tips that will help you to successfully train your westie puppy.
A pet owner should have realistic expectations when it comes to puppy training. Keep in mind that puppies are like babies, and you cannot expect them to control their bladder all day while you are away from him. If you do not have enough time to supervise your puppy all day, then it is best to put him in a crate. This training method is not cruel. Dogs love a warm, safe “place” that will serve as their own area to sleep in.
Remember that these animals won’t urinate or defecate in areas where they sleep. Your puppy is less likely to have an accident while he is on his crate. You can come home at lunch to let your puppy go outside or get up in the middle of the night and bring him outside to do his business. You should remember that your puppy’s bladder is not very big.
Create a schedule and be consistent. Always feed your pet same time every day and take him outside after meal time, when he wakes up from a nap, and after playing.
Westies are sweet and loving puppies, but they are also independent. Do not scold or punish your puppy. If you punish your puppy for his accident, he will learn to make accidents where you cannot find them, and may even come to fear you.
When your puppy does urinate or defecate outside, you should praise him. Do not expect overnight puppy training success. The process may take weeks or even months.
